Law of conservation of mass
This Law was given by Mikhail Lomonosov.
This law states that “the total mass can neither be created nor destroyed but can be converted from one form to another during a chemical reaction”.
Explanation:
Since all the matter is composed of atoms, therefore, atoms can neither be created nor destroyed during a chemical reaction.
Total number of atoms of reactants is always equal to the total number of atoms of products.
Consider the following equation:
C+O2 — →CO2
Total number of atoms of reactants = 6.02 X 1023 atoms of C+ (2 x 6.02 X 1023) atoms of O
= 3 x 6.02 X 1023 atoms
Total number of atoms of product = 3 X 6.02 X 1023 atoms
Total number of atoms of reactants = Total number of atoms of product
